Sony Xperia E

SONY XPERIA E REVIEW

Sony Announced to launch water proof & dust proof smart phone Sony Xperia E. Designed along the same overall theme as the high-end Xperia Z, Sony's Xperia E is designed for smaller pockets in more ways than one. The 5in Full HD 1,080x1,920 display of the Xperia Z gives way to a small 3.5in 480x320 display on the Xperia E, marking the device out as sitting firmly at the bottom of Sony's Xperia device family - a positioning confirmed by the presence of a single-core 1GHz processor and just 512MB of RAM behind the display. Storage, too, is at the very bottom of what a buyer would expect from a smartphone, offering just 4GB of internal capacity - although, in a move that is becoming worryingly rare at the higher end of the smartphone market, Sony has at least included a micro-SD card slot that can expand the storage capacity of the handset by up to 32GB. The rear of the handset includes a 3.2 megapixel rear camera supporting both autofocus and flash, although there's no sign of a front-facing camera for video conferencing. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR wireless technologies are both supported, and the handset ships with full Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) support for streaming media. As with Sony's other devices, the Xperia E includes a few software tweaks not found on other Android handsets: the stock music app is replaced with Sony's own Walkman application, while access to Sony's Music Unlimited streaming service is also bundled. Both support the company's xLOUD filter technology, claimed to improve audio quality even through the phone's in-built speaker. All these extra apps run on top of Google's Android 'Jelly Bean' 4.1 operating system. While not the very latest Android 4.2 release, which brings new features include a 'photosphere' image capture mode, it's still pretty up-to-date - and marks the Xperia E as the cheapest way to get a new phone with Jelly Bean: Clove is taking pre-orders for SIM free handsets. Clove has confirmed that the black version of the Xperia E will be in stock from the 19th of March, with a slightly delayed white model expected to arrive in early April.
