LG LUCID 4G VS840 REVIEW
LG
Lucid 4G VS840 Announced 2012, March Status Available. Released 2012 April. The
Lucid's 5 MP camera takes gorgeous photos, and it also offers a front-facing
camera for self-portraits and video chat. The Lucid takes stunning HD videos,
with a catch - like on many other phones, you'll need to turn the phone
sideways to take videos. Otherwise, the video will play sideways on your
computer. To flip a sideways video on my computer, I used a combination of Any
Video Converter to create an MPEG-2 video, then Free Video Flip and Rotate to
rotate the video. The Free Video Flip and Rotate software is ad-supported, and
I recommend un-checking the boxes for installing their toolbars. The Lucid has
4 GB of internal memory, but you'll probably want to add a microSD card (which
is not included) to make sure you have enough space for all of your high-resolution
pictures and HD videos. Voice calls and texting work well, and email functions
similarly to other Android phones. I was able to set up a Windows Live Hotmail
account without any trouble, unlike on some phones, but I downloaded a free
Hotmail app that has more functionality (such as deleting messages on both the
server and device, honoring filters, and downloading messages from selected folders
instead of just the inbox). YouTube videos load splendidly fast, play smoothly,
and look dynamite on the Lucid's four-inch display. Games look incredibly
bright and colorful. My Angry Birds tester was impressed, and Words With
Friends played well. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that games and
videos can really suck battery life quickly, even when running in the
background. After playing a game and before putting the phone down, use
something like Gemini App Manager to exit any games or other unnecessary
programs running in the background. Just having Words With Friends running
silently and with no other interaction will completely drain the battery within
a few hours, even with notifications set to every six hours. To help save
battery life, you can also go into the settings of both the Play Store
(formerly Android Market) and the Amazon App Store (if you've downloaded it)
and disable notifications of updates. The notifications are frequent, annoying,
and battery-draining, and this applies to any Android phone I've seen, not just
the Lucid. Turning off WiFi before placing the phone in a briefcase or purse
also seems to save battery life. The phone must burn a lot of its energy while
searching for a WiFi signal. I especially enjoy testing the Voice Search app on
Android phones. I wanted to know the name of an actor in a movie I was watching
one evening. I whipped out the Lucid, launched Voice Search, and spoke
"Naked Gun 33 1/3 cast." The Google search results pointed me to a
cast list and the information I wanted. Voice Search makes it extremely quick
and simple to find whatever information you need, whenever you need it. Keep
the phone handy when you're in the kitchen, and you can get a
"substitution for buttermilk" or find a "recipe for roasted cauliflower."
If you want to know the name of a song on the radio, use Voice Search and say
the word "lyrics" with a few words from the song, and you'll probably
see the title in the search results. The Battery has Li-Ion 1700 mAh battery.
Stand-by Up to 350 h and Talk time Up to 8 hours.
